A stunning handcrafted silver fish from India made with over 800 grams of first grade silver measuring over half a meter! The body has been crafted out of 64 rows of scales which makes the fish very flexibel and lifelike. The fishe's mouth opens up revealing it's hollow inside.
A fish like this is a traditional wedding gift in India. Often the fish itself was filled with paper money as well. The symbolic meaning of a fish in India originates from it being a water animal. Water has been known to be a womb symbol and as such an emblem of birth and fertility. The fish is also seen as a symbol of good luck and happiness. Who wouldn't wish a newly wed couple all of the above with a money filled large silver fish.
Not only a beautiful piece of Indian traditional handicraft and silverwork but surely an original wedding gift.
